The school year has begun for millions of students across the country and for BEYOND THE LOCKER (BTL) it means the start of its programs and new relationships.  We would like to do a summer in review before we get started on the exciting things that BTL has planned.

BTL's summer ended with the implementation of a new program... The BTL Summer Academy.  We were able to impact over 300 students. The core of the program started with Robertson High School Students being trained and empowered to lead and facilitate BTL life skills concepts. These students worked hand in hand with lead facilitators, Tony Stewart and Dwight "Transparent" Taylor, to teach 200 Jr. High School Summer School Students how to "GIVE" it all they got.

A select group of 32 Jr. High Students were then trained to be Coaches at a BTL Mini Camp for 6th grade students that were part of the FUSD Summer School. Students were impacted by community leaders that included Fremont Mayor Bill Harrison, FUSD Superintendent Dr. Jim Morris, School Administrator Kathy Ashford, School Board Member Lily Mei and former NFL Player Courtney Brown. The day proved to be a success through the testimonies the youth and teachers gave during the Mini Camp.
